Microsoft's new feature allows users to customize how apps are set up in Windows 11

 According to the company, these two features will be available to Windows Insider Dev Channel PCs in the coming months before being included in the general release of the operating system windows 11.

Microsoft announced significant changes to the way Windows manages to open certain files by default, as well as how users can pin programs to the taskbar or their Start menu on the desktop. The tech giant is launching a new deep link "Uniform Resource Identifier" (URI) that will allow developers to direct users to the appropriate section of the Settings menu when they want to change how Windows 11 responds to certain links and file types.

"We will soon introduce a new Settings deep link URI to allow applications to take their users directly to the appropriate location in Settings to change their defaults," Microsoft said in a blog post. Additionally, the company says it will give users more control over which apps are pinned to their desktop, Start menu, and taskbar by introducing a new public API that prompts programs to request permission to grant them before they appear in those interface elements.

"We will soon release a new publicly available API that will allow apps to pin primary or secondary tiles to the taskbar," the company said. According to the company, these two features will be available to Windows Insider Dev Channel PCs in the coming months before being included in the general release of the operating system.
